If you are debating when to go to Greece, October is one of our favorite times of year to go. The weather is still beautiful and sunny, without being too hot. I’ve visited Greece several times in October and love it during this time. Since the summer rush is over, it is less busy, but the weather is still beautiful.

Many places in Greece range between the mid-50s to high 70s over the course of October, with the warmest days being at the beginning of the month. Generally, the days are warmer and the evenings are cooler, particularly as October progresses.

Key Takeaways

  • The weather in Greece is beautiful in October, making it a great time of year to visit.
  • Consider the Greek islands, such as Paros, Rhodes, and Corfu. Rhodes in particular is great, because it’s warm enough to swim.
  • October is also great to visit cities such as Athens and Thessaloniki as well

October Weather in Key Greek Destinations

Curious about the weather in specific destinations in Greece over the month of October? Check out more below:

Athens

The highs usually fall between 68 degrees and 79 degrees, while the lows range between 55 degrees and 63 degrees.

Even if you are planning on visiting the Greek islands, you will likely be flying into Athens before continuing on your trip. While I personally love Athens, due to the cultural sites, food, and wine, it’s not for everybody. It’s not as relaxing or serene as the islands.

If you are planning on visiting Athens, October is a great time to go! The last thing you will want to do is wait to see the Parthenon in the hot summer sun. Summertime into September are pretty brutal, especially when the lines are very long.

Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki has some of the best food in all of Greece and is even on UNESCO’s list for gastronomy. However, Thessaloniki is definitely on the cooler side, since it is further north than other destinations on this list. Temperatures range between 76 to 64 for the highs and 57 to 48 degrees for the lows.

Paros

If you are looking for those Instagram-worthy places, Paros is one of those spots. In particular, we loved Naoussa (which we highly recommend!)

Naoussa

The average highs range between 77 degrees to 69 degrees, and the lows range between 66 degrees to 59 degrees.

Santorini

Santorini is perhaps one of the most famous Greek islands, with its iconic white homes and blue shutters. However, it can get very crowded in the summer, making the shoulder season an ideal time to visit. The highs are 77 to 69 degrees, with lows of 67 to 60.

Corfu

Corfu does have some beautiful beaches and the beginning of October is a great time to enjoy them! Temperatures range between 78 to 70 for the highs and 61 to 54 degrees for the lows.

Rhodes

My friends and I decided to check out Rhodes after I took an American Express quiz telling me that it was the ideal island for me (They were right!)

In case you are wondering where Rhodes is, since it’s warmer than the other places on this list—  It’s located near Turkey and is further south than many other islands. As a result, it usually rests 79 to 72 degrees for the high. The low is 69 to 62 degrees.

Rhodes

Crete

Crete is the largest Greek island. Like Rhodes, it is pretty far south, resulting in warm temperatures. The highs are between 78 to 71 degrees and the lows are 66 to 60.

Is October a Good Time to Visit Greece?

We love Greece in October! It’s still warm enough to visit the beach and enjoy the outdoors. The tourist season is also over, making it much easier to see your favorite sites and often cheaper in terms of lodging and flights.

You can absolutely still go to the beach in October while in Greece. The southern islands (Crete and Rhodes) are probably some of the best destinations for this, as they remain warmer.
