Want to start traveling, but not sure who to go with? If you are looking how to find people to travel with, look no further! Our tips and recommendations below will help you find a group that is ready to explore the world.
1. Join a Tour Group
Joining a tour group can be one of the best ways to meet people who are interested in travel, while scheduling trip. Plus – If you are going overseas, a group makes planning international travel easier, since they plan the logistics. Below are some tour groups and packages you can check out.
- Girls Love Travel: I love the Facebook group, which features tips from locals and fellow travelers. They also offer tours which you can explore here.
- Traveling Jackie: I have a friend who went on a tour with this podcaster and had a great time! You can find more here.
The best part is when you meet friends through these groups, they are also generally interested in exploring and traveling, making it easier to plan future trips.
2. Use the Web
There are plenty of Facebook groups dedicated to travel, including Girls Love Travel and The Solo Female Traveler Network. These groups can allow you to expand your network with like minded people. I’ve used Facebook groups myself to meet some really cool friends and people when moving to a new city.
You can also use websites like “Join My Trip” to book trips with people interested in similar experiences. Apps such as Travel Buddies, Travello, and Backpackr can also connect you with other people who are interested in travel.
Please note: It should go without saying, but be sure to be careful before meeting anyone from the web.. It may also be difficult to tell if you mesh well with someone prior to meeting them in real life.
3. Plan the Trip. See Who Joins
In my experience, a big hindrance to traveling is the effort required in planning. This includes selecting the hotels, dates, and organizing the logistical aspects. If you are the one willing to take on this load in your friend circle, you may find that some of your friends will be interested in joining the adventure you plan.
4. Expand your Friend Circle
If you want to meet people who are interested in travel, expanding your current group of friends is a great start! You can use Bumble BFF, Facebook groups, and Meetup.com to meet like-minded people.
5. Visit Friends Who Have Moved Away
After college, many of my friends moved away, often to destinations I’d never visited, including California, Switzerland and Illinois. Visiting friends who moved away allows you to reconnect with people you haven’t seen in some time, while also giving you the opportunity to explore somewhere new. A win-win!
6. Study Abroad
This one is really only applicable if you are college-aged, but studying abroad is a great way too meet friends who are looking to travel. When I lived in Heidelberg, it was so easy to get to other countries and travel cheaply across Europe. My friends and I would take a lot of weekend trips to make the most of our time there andI still travel with a lot of those same friends today.
7. Consider Traveling Solo
Interest in solo trips is growing. According to Google, searches related to this term are up about 20% when compared to the previous year.
However, just because you are traveling solo doesn’t mean you have to travel alone if that isn’t your thing. There are plenty of ways to meet people while abroad, including taking classes, taking tours, staying in hostels, or couchsurfing. There is also an Association of International Greeters that will take you on a free walk of their city when you travel. If you’re open to it, there are a lot of ways to meet people when you’re already traveling.
